The Challenge

Failing Multi-Layer Floor

The original garage floor had several failing layers. The existing concrete slab had been covered with old paint, followed by additional cement-based repair layers. Some of the repair material had not cured or bonded properly. Large sections were loose, uneven, soft, and failing.

The stem walls also had high spots, voids, surface damage, and large irregular areas that required repair before coating.

Removal & Preparation

Back to Sound Concrete

The crew first removed the loose and failing cement layers with a small demolition hammer. This reduced unnecessary wear on the diamond grinding equipment and exposed the underlying surface.

After removing the failed material, the remaining paint and contamination were mechanically ground away. The floor was taken back to the original concrete slab and prepared to create a clean, sound surface for the coating system.

The surface was then swept, vacuumed, and cleaned thoroughly before repairs and coating began.

Crack & Surface Repairs

Stabilizing the Slab

Cracks and damaged areas were filled with a fast-curing crack repair material.

Small pits and surface voids were filled where required. For deeper gaps, clean aggregate sand was combined with the liquid crack repair material to build a stronger repair. After curing, the repaired areas were ground smooth and blended into the surrounding concrete.

Building a True Vertical Transition

The stem walls contained high spots, holes, rough areas, and uneven surfaces.

The high areas were mechanically reduced. An Everflow epoxy mortar was then applied to fill larger holes, smaller voids, and damaged sections. After curing, the repaired walls received a light mechanical scuff before coating.

Base Coat, Wombat Flake & Topcoat

After preparation and repairs were completed, the floor and repaired stem walls received the base coat.

The Wombat decorative flake blend from Everflow was broadcast into the coating to create a full flake finish.

The following day, the excess flake was prepared and the Everflow topcoat was applied to seal and protect the system.

Final Result

A Clean, Durable Garage Finish

The completed system created a clean, durable, and consistent finish across the garage floor and stem walls.

The transformation replaced a failing, uneven blue floor with a professional full flake surface designed for vehicle traffic, easier cleaning, and long-term use.

The customer completed a final walkthrough, approved the finished work, and was pleased with the result.
